VILLA SHEWLIN
Spring
Spring in the highlands is a beautiful season that showcases the beauty of the four seasons. With snow still remaining on Mount Asama, colorful flowers begin to bloom as spring arrives. Primroses color the lake with spring haze and then the magnificent rhododendrons bloom in full splendor, following the cherry blossoms.
Ten minutes by car from our facility is the largest rhododendron garden in Japan, boasting the size of 10 Tokyo Domes. From spring to summer, hundreds of thousands of azalea blooms cover the highlands like a blanket of vibrant scarlet.
Spring is also a time when animals start to become active. If you listen carefully, you can hear the cheerful chirping of birds and the buzzing of insects, which tells you that they were also waiting for the arrival of spring.
The spring in the highlands is a beautiful season that can heal your heart. Be sure to visit the highlands and experience the beauty of spring for yourself.
Summer
Spend a summer without air conditioning in the Asama Highlands, 1,100 meters above sea level and you will be reminded of the meaning of the word "summer resort." There is a refreshing breeze that you can't experience in hotels or resort apartments. Time flows slowly.
In the morning, when the soft sunlight shines down, you will feel the wind blowing through the trees, and you will be reminded that humans are part of nature.
From sunset to nightfall, this is the most important and relaxing time to stay at Shewlin. Surrounded by family and friends around a burning charcoal fire, it is the most luxurious highland dinner. How about fishing for rainbow trout at Lake Baragi or a nearby fishing pond and adding salt-grilled fish to the menu?
The Asama Highlands is a summer resort where you can stay cool even in the summer. You can comfortably stay without air conditioning and relax in an environment surrounded by nature. Be sure to visit the Asama Highlands once.
Autumn
If you are staying at Villa Shewlin in Karuizawa during the autumn leaves season, the Asama White Root Volcano Route is a must-do. The 60-kilometer road that runs from Karuizawa through the foothills of Mount Asama, through Manza Onsen, and to Mount Shirane, passes right through the heart of the Joshinetsu National Park. The autumn leaves of the rowan trees that stand out against the white birch forest are a sight to behold.
If you leave Prince Land and head north, you can go to Kusatsu via Manza and Shirane. This will allow you to enjoy the Kusatsu hot springs at your own pace before returning to your cottage.
If you want to take a stroll around Karuizawa town in the autumn, Yunuma Pond and Shiozawa Pond are recommended. If art is your cup of tea, it is a good idea to visit a museum that is unique to the highlands. Karuizawa town has a number of museums, including the Sezon Museum of Art, the Tasaki Museum of Art, the Peynet Museum, the Wakita Museum of Art, the Lava Museum and the Senju Museum of Art.
Winter
The king of winter sports is skiing and snowboarding. The closest ski resorts to Villa Shurei are the Palcol Ski Resort and the Karuizawa Snow Area, which are both within a 30-minute drive.
There are also many other ski resorts in the area, such as the famous powder snow resort of Manza Ski Resort, the diversely-coursed Kusatsu Ski Resort, the snow park that is fun for children and the stylish Karuizawa Prince.
You can also experience cross-country skiing and snowshoeing, so winter in Asama Highlands is truly a winter sports world!
